Plantation Resort, Taveuni
Maravu - A Fijian word meaning 'Calm
and Tranquil'
At Maravu Plantation Resort you'll find
a tropical playground in a first class boutique resort on beautiful
Taveuni Island where you can also enjoy the finest diving, adventure
& cultural acitivies.
The
Resort
Maravu is the perfect hideaway offering a great combination of adventure
and relaxation, culture and the unique experience to live with the
people who have been here since ancient times. Their laughter and
happiness will remain imprinted on you after you have left and will
make you want to return. For those
who want to enjoy the finest dining, world
class diving in the Somosomo Strait, tropical beaches with huge
rain trees and palm trees swaying in the breeze, spectacular waterfalls,
or the famous volcano lake then Maravu is ideal. Set into a lush
tropical hillside just across the quiet coastal road, this 90 acre
resort accommodates maximum of 30 guests in beautifully designed
traditional bures, that will give your stay a very personal note.
Lush tropical gardens hide each private bure. When
you first enter the main building with its open walls and thatched
roof decorated with Fijian art like carved bowls, masks, pottery,
driftwood and painted tapapictures, Maravu wiil be sure to captivate
you!
The
Diving
Fed by the nutrient rich waters of the Somosomo Strait, Taveuni's
Rainbow Reef is home to one of the world's most spectacular displays
of soft coral and the abundant fish life that inhabits these reefs.
In just 25-30 minutes the well equipped aluminium Swiis Fiji Divers
vessels whisk divers away to famous dive sites such as the Great
White Wall, The Ledge, Annie's Bommie, Jerry's Jelly, Rainbow's
End and many many more. The vibrant colours of the soft coral and
the fish life really do have to be seen to be believed. Most dives
are drift-dives where you simply follow the current and the vessel
will be nearby to pick you up when you surface.

Accommodation
Each of the bures are spaced apart on our 90 acre resort, so you
can feel the privacy relaxing in the hammock on the verandah. Bure's
are well-appointed and beautifully decorated with Fijian artwork
and paintings. Wherever you look, flowers are spread out in full
bloom, liberally adorning your tropical home. At Maravu there are
four categories of bure:
Planters Bures (fan cooled):
There are four Bures set as duplex units with a garden view. The
rooms are completely separate with own entrance, verandah, bathroom
and just one joining wall. The duplex units have an interconnecting
facility, which is ideal for a family with children having their
own room. Walking distance to the private Maravu Beach is 5 minutes.
Deluxe Bures (air conditioned &
fan cooled):
Each Bure has a private outdoor shower and Jacuzzi. This Bure type
has both an inside and an outside shower and a covered verandah
in addition to the sun deck. The outdoor furniture consists of Mahogany
pool beds, chairs and tables. One of the three Deluxe Bures has
partial ocean view while two have garden view. Walking distance
to the private Maravu Beach is 3 minutes.
Honeymoon Bures (air conditioned &
fan cooled):
Another five Bures are built with a private stone walled courtyard
containing an outside shower and a Jacuzzi. This Bure type also
has both an inside and an outside shower and in addition to the
sun deck a covered verandah. The outdoor furniture consists of Mahogany
pool beds, chairs and tables. All Honeymoon Bures have partial Ocean-view.
Inside they are fitted with king-size four poster beds. Walking
distance to the private Maravu Beach is 3 minutes.
Oceanview Spa Villas (air conditioned
& fan cooled):
Four villas with two rooms each - one lounge room and one sleeping
room. Three villas have magnificent 180 degrees ocean views over
to Vanua Levu, Matagi Island and beyond whilst one has both an Ocean
and Garden view. The private open-air courtyard contains an outside
shower, a large sun deck and a spacious Jacuzzi Pool with waterfall.
The verandah consists of a covered terrace and extensive open sun
decks. The Villas feature in addition to the outside shower an inside
shower and a separate toilet.
Meals
Dining at Maravu really is quite a special experience. You can choose
to have a candle lit dinner alongside other guests laughing and
conversing in the quiet open restaurant, or choose a spot by the
pool, on the beach or in the garden to have a private moment with
one another under the stars of the Southern skies. The cuisine at
Maravu really is excellent. The day starts with a full buffet breakfast
adorned with a huge selection of tropical fruits.
For both lunch and dinner guests can choose from up to 4 entrees,
main courses & desserts. The menu reflects a combination of
International and Fijian influenced dishes - innovative fresh fish
and seafood dishes are served along with delicious local produce.
Each evening, enjoy the enchanting harmony of the Maravu Serenades
as they play Fijian songs. Every week you can experience a Fijian
meke and lovo feast - enjoy watching traditional dances and taste
delicious food which is cooked 'Fijian style' in an underground
oven !
Dive Shop
Maravu Plantation Resort uses the local dive shop from Jewel Bubble
Divers for daily dive excursions for their in-house guests.
Snorkelling
Just out from Maravu's private beach there's some very nice snorkelling
opportunities. You can also opt to be taken to beautiful Honeymoon
Island, just 10 minutes away, complete with packed lunch and drinks.
From the island you'll experience some of Taveuni's very best snorkelling
on reefs teeming with colourful fish life or relax on your own private
island beach!
Complimentary
resort activities
There are many complimentary activities to enjoy at Maravu. Go horseback
riding, have fun on their mountain bikes, explore the coastline
in a kayak, or be enthralled by snorkelling off the beach and seeing
the beauty of the underwater world. Guided plantation walks, croquet,
and bocchiai games are also provided.
Several times a week you may witness a Fijian
Kava ceremony. Musical entertainment is provided by the house band,
and there are weekly Meke (Fijian songs and dances) and Lovo (Fijian
underground oven) feasts.
Other
activities
Half- and full-day tours (guided or unguided) include trips to beautiful
waterfalls where you experience the supreme pleasure of swimming
in secluded rainforest pools.
Taveuni is one of the
few places on earth where the 180 degree meridian touches land ...
visiting the marker is another popular option, and why not follow
that with some fun and excitement at the Waitavela natural waterslide.
Watch the local children show you how it's done ... and maybe join
in for some spills and thrills!
Visit
a Catholic mission, join a sunset cruise, watch the famous Taveuni
blow holes, see a working copra plantation, go rainforest hiking,
or rise early for an excellent bird-watching experience.
Local culture
The friendliness and culture of the local people is all around you
- take a short walk to the local fishing village or
a trip to a traditional Fijian village, where you are warmly welcomed
and introduced to different village activities and pursuits.
Getting to/from Taveuni
Your international flight into Fiji will take you into Nadi on Fiji's
main island of Viti Levu. From there daily domestic flights take
you to Taveuni's Matei Airport. For those already in Fiji daily
flights also operate between Suva & Taveuni. Maravu is located
just two minutes drive from the airport so in no time you'll be
enjoying your complimentary cocktail and serenaded arrival. There's
only one sealed road on Taveuni covering about 75% of the island!
