Fitzroy Island is located just off Cairns. After a 40 minute ride with a catamaran you reach the island which has beautiful rainforests and coral beaches.

Dive Sites

You can also scuba dive from Fitzroy Island. They have speed boats to drive to the reefs that are approximately 10 minutes away from Fitzroy. (Two dives per day are offered.)

The diving of Fitzroy Island is not spectacular, visibility is often low but still you can have great dives for small critters here. Recently we did a night dive just of the jetty in about 3m depth. There were lots of lion fish, a few morays and even an octopus. It was a great dive! If you go there, don't miss this night dive!

Property Features

It is a great place for divers who travel with non-divers, or kids, or simply for divers who don't like to spend more time on boats than necessary. There are guided tours to the rainforest, but you can explore the island also on your own if you wish. Just off the beaches are nice little reefs for snorkelling.

There is a communal kitchen for self-catering. But there are other options as well. You can buy breakfast at the buffet on the pool. For lunch there is a small fast food service. You can get dinner at the fast food shop and also at the islands restaurant, which is open for dinner only.

Accommodation

Fitzroy has two categories of accommodation:

• Beach Bunkhouses: Backpacker dormitory style, you share a room with up to three strangers. If you prefer a more private atmosphere you can pay extra and have the same room for yourself (single), or can share it with 2 more friends or family members (private share). Linen and blankets are included. Showers and toilets are on a share base. There is a communal kitchen for self-catering in the complex.
• Beach Cabins: Are spacious bungalows directly on the beach. Each has two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and another one with two single beds. They all have ceiling fans, TV and shaded verandahs.
