The Resort
Jais Aben's pool or the "beach bar" are popular
places for a "sundowner". Jais Aben's restaurant
is famous in the area for its seafood dishes. It has frequently
changing menus and offers a very interesting mix of international
cuisine with local Papua New Guinea vegetables and foods.
Prices are inclusive of three meals with full breakfast.
There
is very good swimming off the jetty and the small sandy
beach next to the dive shop. The fringing reef around the
Peninsula and the little Island, 250 m across are perfect
snorkelling areas.
The Nagada harbour can be explored with kayaks or you
get a tour in one of the motorised boats. If you are looking
for a pleasant place in a tropical atmosphere, Jais Aben
is the right place for you.
The whole resort is covered with high palm trees and an
abundance of wildlife and you're sure to meet Jack, the
friendly Kokomo bird. The surroundings are ideal to relax
for a couple of days or longer, the nearby villages are
picturesque and the inhabitants very friendly and easy going.
Accommodation
Jais Aben Resort now offers some new and recently renovated
waterfront accommodation. The Frangipani bungalows are equipped
with two double beds, air conditioning, screened verandah,
TV, bar fridge, tea & coffee making facilities.
The 2 deluxe bungalows are very spacious with a double bed
and a seperate lounge with TV, air conditioning and a large
screened verandah.
Dive Shop
The dive shop of Jais Aben Resort (Aquaventures PNG) is
close to all major dive sites. This PADI facility is one
of the best stocked in PNG and the full-time dive instructors
provide excellent dive services. This is a very good place
if you or your travel companions want a personal and relaxing
learn-to-dive course. Ask us for details.
Colourful
fringing reefs are immediately off the resort and the many
beautiful islands nearby make Jais Aben the ideal location
for snorkellers & non-divers alike. They've got two
PADI instructors and three qualified divemasters to look
after you! Two speed boats for eight to ten divers each
carry you to all dive sites in 15 to 45 minutes.
So you can choose between one and two dives in the morning,
be back for lunch at the jetty and go back for a third dive
in the afternoon or just relax and snorkel around the fringing
reef.
Good quality hire equipment is available.
Activities
Madang has a good variety of restaurants, hotels, supermarkets,
banks and an excellent golf course.
The local market offers a big display of traditional art
like carvings from the sepik or the traditional woven bags,
the bilum. Shells and tropical fruit and vegetable contribute
to the colourful atmosphere. The market is the women's place.
The German cemetery is adjacent to the markets. The old
stones are reminders of the past.
You should also visit the Madang Cultural Centre to get
an idea of the different cultures in PNG. Or visit one of
the surrounding villages and get an idea of daily life in
rural PNG.
Madang is a good place to hire a car and drive along the
highway to make your own discoveries.
Alexishafen is located 25 km north of Jais Aben. It's an
old missionary station situated in one of the prettiest
bays along the coast. Trekking through the nearby mountains
to hot springs and remote rainforest villages can also be
organised. Or take a four day guided hike through pristine
landscapes from Madang to the Eastern Highland town of Goroka.
