World Class Diving, Island Relaxation, Minutes from the National Capital
Loloata is an ideal base to explore Port Moresby's exquisite
diving. Undoubtedly, Port Moresby must be the only capital
in the world which offers world class diving close by. Where
else do you find sheer walls, wrecks and sheltered lagoons
with rare species of marine life 45 min south of the international
airport.
Loloata
is also a very good choice for those Port Moresby stopovers, which are sometimes
necessary when you travel to other parts of the country. Almost every night you
can find diving enthusiasts from all over the world exchanging the latest stories.
Dive Sites
There are 30 charted dive locations in close distance. Very
nice wreck dive is the M.V. Pacific Gas, which lies between 15 and 40 m or the
PAI II at 25 m. Both wrecks have been sunk by Bob Halstead and are now overgrown
with corals and teeming with fish life.
"Suzies Bommie" for example
is a pristine bommie situated on white sand with a plethora of corals & fishlife.
This is a good site for the Pygmy Seahorses and a real treat for macro photographers!
Our recent trip has confirmed it again, that diving out of Loloata diving shouldn't
be missed on any itinerary.

Features
Loloata
Island Resort is only 45 minutes away from Port Moresby's "Jackson International"
airport. It is on a tiny Island and forms part of Bootless Bay. The island is
about 2 km long and only 400m wide.
The resort has been built on the sheltered
side facing the PNG coastline with its traditional villages in the background.
It provides a number of power boats for transfers to the mainland or snorkelling
trips to the nearby reefs and islands.
The food in the centrally located restaurant
is all-inclusive, as the resort is the only facility on the Island. Breakfast
with tropical fruit, bacon and eggs, toast, cereal, juices, and the excellent
PNG coffee - Lunch buffets usually come with fish/meat and salads/pasta.
Dinner
is three course served meal which features a lot of fresh fish and a mixture of
local, Asian and international recipes. Beware: Always leave room for the delicious
desserts!
The resort has a conference facilities for up to fifty people which
makes it perfect for workshops, seminars, dive projects, etc.
The staff and
management of this resort are exceptionally efficient and friendly.
Accommodation
Loloata has a unique, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The Beach Bungalows
are built on stilts into the water and feature beautiful wooden floors and a wide
terrace facing the sea. Ceiling fans support the natural ventilation.
There
are also air-conditioned bungalows available. They are about 5 minutes to walk
from the main resort building. They are located only a few meters away from the
sea and have sea views as well.
The wide verandahs featured on both types of accommodation are ideal places to
relax.
Dive Shop
The resort's own dive shop organises snorkelling
tours to "Lion Island" which is close to Loloata, as well as two or
three tank dive excursions to the barrier reef.
Their two 30 ft monohull purpose
built dive boats, "Reef Master I + II", take up to 10 divers each.
The
boat leaves for the first dive from the resort around 8 a.m. in the morning and
goes to the reef for two dives and returns around 2 p.m. Plenty of time to relax
in the resort.
With 20 knots cruising speed, "Reef Master" has
access to all the fantastic dive sites around Port Moresby in a very short time.
Photo/Video Facilities
Bring your own equipment. The dive shop does
have digital editing facilities for video and you might be able to dump digital
data on a CDR.
Day Tours to Port Moresby
Loloata offers its guests
a half-day tour (5 hours) around Port Moresby which includes the "must see"
cultural sites like the National Museum and the magnificent Parliament house.
This tour also offers the opportunity to visit downtown Port Moresby with its
high rise administration buildings contrasting with the wooden stilt house community
of Hanuabada on the other end of the Bay.
At the end of the tour a compulsory
stop is at "PNG Arts", the biggest collection of original PNG carvings,
weavings, paintings, pottery, musical instruments...
