Products / Accommodation / PNG / Rapopo Plantation Resort

Beautifully landscaped Colonial Style Dive Resort

Rapopo Platation Resort, Papua New Guinea Rapopo Plantation Resort is conveniently located between Kokopo and Tokua Airport and is part of a working coconut plantation. It is about 5 minutes drive to Kokopo and 10 minutes to Tokua (Rabaul) Airport.

It is right on the beach with views to Pigeon Island and the active volcanoes on the horizon. Sunsets are particularly spectacular from here.

Dive Sites

Rabaul was the place for wreck diving in PNG before three of the volcanoes which surround the caldera erupted simultaneously in September 1994. In three days the thriving town of Rabaul was completely covered in ash and destroyed.

Slowly life has returned to Rabaul, although there is still plenty of evidence of the devastation caused by the eruptions and the volcanic ash which blanketed the harbour area of town.

The wrecks in the harbour were covered under tons of ash which is now clearing in places. Today there are still a couple of very good wreck dives and divers have discovered the beautiful reefs around Rabaul as world class dive spots.

Features

Rapopo Plantation Resort, Units The Rapopo Plantation Resort is built around the old plantation managers residence and converted in a beautiful restaurant/bar preserving the colonial feel. Your hosts are Brian and Bev Martin, who previously managed the Kaivuna Resort in downtown Rabaul.

The on-site dive shop offers daily diving and dive instruction upon request.

The restaurant offers delicious meals. Make sure you do not miss out on the lobster - it is excellent ! The bar is a great spot for a sundowner. At night, the glowing lava of Tarvuvur can be seen from here.

Accommodation

Your rooms are located in a nice building close to the sea. The deluxe rooms are fully air conditioned with private bathroom facilities including a bath. The plantation rooms are fan cooled with share bathroom facilities.

Things To Do in Rabaul

For those who are fascinated by volcanoes, Rabaul is the place to watch the active volcanoes, "Tarvuvur" and "Vulcan". There are guided tours to the craters or you can just watch the craters glowing at nights.

Rabaul's surrounds are as tropically lush and as dramatic as ever. The whole area boasts scenic views and historical artifacts of WWII . There is so much to see underwater and on land, a few days up to a week can be easily spent in Rabaul.
