3 and 4 night trips to the Ribbon Reefs and Osprey Reef
Taka is a very spacious, modern and comfortable vessel that is popular with divers
of all budgets. Taka trips start and end in Cairns and offer a 4 day cruise
departing on Tuesdays and 5 days trip departing each Friday. On the Friday excursion
you get to dive the Cod Hole and the Ribbon Reefs, plus you also get to dive for
a full day in the Coral Sea, at spectacular Osprey Reef which is excellent for
shark action and other awesome marine life. For this reason, we recommend going
for the Friday departure rather than the Tuesday trip if you have the time to
spare. Dive Sites On normal schedules Taka visits the Ribbon Reefs
and the Coral Sea (Osprey Reef).

Vessel
At a length of 30 metres (100ft), Taka is a huge vessel with plenty of room
for 32 divers and 12 crew on board. The entire boat is air-conditioned and the
interior has a contemporary feel about it. A comfortable saloon with Plasma-TV/Video/DVD
and Stereo provides a nice setting to view the daily underwater video update.
Internet Terminals allow the computerjunkies to stay up to date with the world
and e-mail their latest u/w pictures to their mates back home only seconds after
they have been taken. There is a large dive deck with plenty of room to store
all your personal gear. You can also relax on the sun deck between dives.
Accommodation
On the Upper Deck, Taka features a Stateroom Cabin with a Queenbed, Television
and an X Box, and also 4 Deluxe Double/Twin cabins all with ensuite bathrooms
and windows. Below deck there are 2 standard twin share cabins and 4 quad
share cabins. 3 share facilities (showers/WC), located on the dive deck, are available
for divers in these cabins. Itinerary Trip
1: 5 days / 4 nights Coral Sea/Osprey Reef & Ribbon Reefs/Cod Hole departing
Friday and returning Tuesday. Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea is famous for its sheer
walls and pelagic life. Shark encounters are the special experience on Osprey
Reef. Silvertips, Grey Whalers, sometimes Hammerheads and for sure Whitetip Sharks
are to be seen here. Expect visibilities between 90 and 150 feet.
The trip combines two diving highlights of our area - the Osprey Reef and the
Cod Hole - in only five days. A very big distance gets covered in a few days and
Taka will sail during the nights. If you are pressed by time, but want to see
both, this is the chance to go there. Here is the schedule:
- Friday:
Pick up around 4.00pm from your accommodation. Overnight
cruise to the Cod Hole.
- Saturday:
4 dives at the Cod Hole and the Ribbon Reefs, one of those is a night dive. The
night is used again to cruise to Osprey in the Coral Sea.
- Sunday:
Dive the walls of Osprey's "North Horne". Shark Feed. Four dives. Back to Ribbon
Reefs over night.
- Monday:
4 dives on the Ribbon Reefs.
- Tuesday:
2 morning dives on the outer Barrier Reef and then head back for Cairns, arrive
at 3.30 PM
Trip
2: 4 days / 3 nights Ribbon Reefs & Cod Hole departing Tuesday and returning
Friday. A very big distance gets covered in a few days and Taka will sail during
the nights.
- Tuesday:
Late departure from Cairns and cruise overnight straight through to the Ribbon
Reefs.
- Wednesday:
Your first dive day with 4 dives, 2 of these dives will be at the Cod Hole. See
the giant and famous potato cods that are eagerly waiting to be fed. Taka moves
on south along the Ribbon Reefs for the other 2 dives.
- Thursday:
Again you get 4 dives on sites like "Pixie's Pinnacle", "Challenger Bay" or "Steve's
Bommie". This part of the Barrier Reef is one of the most beautiful and diverse
stretches of the 2000 km long reef system.
- Friday:
Your last 2 dives on the trip. These dives will be on the outer Barrier Reef at
sites such as Opal or Agincourt Reef. Taka then heads back for Cairns where she
